Practice double half-hitches with nylon #18 cord or equivalent
If you need additional instructions on the double half-hitch, check any basic macrame book
Knotting cords approx 24"-36" long

1. Select a core: 2-4 nylon #18 cords, a thin metal wire, a knitting needle or wood dowel

2. Attach 5-10 knotting cords with reverse lark heads with 1 half-hitch on each side like “a 4”

3. Make one row of vertical double half-hitches from left to right with a cord from core or with a new cord

4. Reverse direction with a row of vertical double half-hitches from right to left

5. Make one row of horizontal double half-hitches from left to right

6. Make one row of horizontal double half-hitches from right to left

7. Make one row of vertical reverse double half-hitches from left to right

8. Make one row of vertical reverse double half-hitches from right to left


Reverse Lark Heads

for anchoring cords around a cord/thread, a wire or any kind of core

with 1 half-hitch on each side

Single Double Half-Hitches
1. Start with the knotting cord always behind the core
2. Go over the core clockwise = 1 half-hitch
3. Repeat last step and through the loop = double half-hitch

Alternative way when your knotting cord is extra long
1. Start with the knotting cord always behind the core
2. Make the loop with knotting cord over thumb and index and pull core through loop
3. Repeat step 2

Vertical Double Half-Hitches
Knotted with a cord from left to right or vice-versa over a vertical core
Rows: Knotted with a single knotting cord over a number of cords as serving as cores

Horizontal Double Half-Hitches
Knotted with a vertical cord over a horizontal cord as a core
Rows: Knotted by each vertical cord over a single core

Reverse Double Half-Hitches
1. Start with knotting cord in front of core
2. Go behind core counterclockwise and through side once for half-hitch
3. Repeat second time for double half-hitch. Finished knot is recognizable by its diagonal bar
